How to use the WhatsApp Lock Chat feature?
To lock specific chats on your WhatsApp, follow these steps:
- Open WhatsApp.
- Select the specific chat you want to lock.
- Tap on three vertical dots and select Lock Chat from the drop-down menu.
This will lock the chat and hide it from the chat list.
How to unlock locked chats?
To unlock WhatsApp’s locked chats,
- Hold your screen and slide downwards on WhatsApp’s main page.
- At the top of the page, you will find the Locked Chats section.
- Now, tap on Locked Chats and unlock it with the pin, password or biometric scan.

How to hide Lock Chats on WhatsApp?
When you lock your WhatsApp chat, it is not visible from the chat list. But if someone got access to your phone pin or password, one can easily unlock these chats. To help you keep your chats entirely hidden, WhatsApp is launching a new update.
This update will help you set a password or pin for your locked chats that will be unique from your smartphone’s and WhatsApp’s pins and passwords.
WhatsApp is calling it a ‘secret code’.
Only when someone specifically knows this secret code and enters it in the WhatsApp search bar, will be able to see the locked chat. This prevents strangers from discovering your closed conversation folder even if they manage to get your phone.
